We attended our first concert here for the Foo Fighters. I would return to the venue for football or another concert. As a concert venue it was good because I enjoyed the band but unless it’s a major show with a large crowd you might be better off at an amphitheater or an indoor arena. Renderings show that work will continue to make the building more suitable for football. We all but ran outside during the final song and were able to get away from the venue and quickly to the interstate. Having been to many Braves games over the years I know that traffic after an event can be a nightmare. They played for almost 3 hours and played a mix of old hits, new songs and cover songs. The Foo Fighters typically put on a great show and this night was no different. The seats were good although there was a large bank of speakers that partially obstructed our view of the stage. We sat in section 410 along what used to be the first base line. GSU finished their inaugural season at the facility in the fall and our visit was for a Foo Fighters concert. This creates more of an oval shaped field that is more conducive to football. Inside the park has been changed by adding seating that runs across where right and center field would have been. All references to baseball and the Braves have been replaced with Georgia State signage. When the Braves moved north to SunTrust Park the stadium became the home park for Georgia State football.įrom the outside there are only minor cosmetic changes. Before that it served as the main venue for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. Georgia State Stadium is the new name for the former Turner Field which served as the home of the Atlanta Braves Major League Baseball team for 20 years (1997-2017).
